The Nigerian High Court has reversed the ban on the use of an HIV vaccine developed by Dr Jeremial Abalaka which he claims will cure HIV.Dr Abalaka developed the vaccine in 1999 and sold it for high prices. It was banned in 2000, 'until proper guidelines to assess and verify claims about drugs and treatments were used.'All Africa reports 'The Network of People living with HIV/AIDS in Nigeria (NEPWHAN) and several civil societies organisations have raised the alarm over the recent court ruling in Makurdi, Benue State which lifted the ban on Dr Jeremiah Abalaka to proceed in his production of vaccines against HIV/AIDS.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, the National Coordinator of NEPWHAN, Edward Ogenyi, said that the recent ruling would revert all the gains made in the HIV/AIDS response and spell serious catastrophe for persons living with the virus.'
