With the increasing HIV prevalence in Sub Saharan region, Nurses have continued to play a key role in management of ART. At the infectious diseases Institute in Kampala Nurses do an excellent job in clinical review of patients including presciption of ARVs that greatly addressed the high patient load. The surveys done on patient satisfaction revealed that the patients preferred to be reviewed by nurses as opposed to being seen by doctors.
The nurses involved in clinicals research have also been pillars among the study teams where they carry out various roles across the researches conducted including sample collection, data quality control and quality assurance, clinical review / follow up of patients alongside the routine patient care.
Interaction amongst experienced research nurses from other regions shall be of great support to such teams.
