Research Mentoring for Nurses
Location: Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras, Departamento de Enfermería - Colonia Alameda, calle La Salud
Language: Spanish
Target audience: Nurses
Event capacity: 20–30
The practice of research mentoring is an important tool for nursing development in environments where scientific production is scarce or null, as is the case of Honduran nurses.
The practical utility of this workshop for nursing provides us with an opportunity to promote the integral development of our professional through research mentoring, empower ourselves in the practice of evidence-based nursing and, above all, make our scientific production visible. From the academy it will be an important contribution to improve the teaching of research in undergraduate and postgraduate courses and as a follow-up activity for graduates of these two levels.
Research mentoring programme for nurses outcome
The cycle of nursing research workshops conducted from July to December 2023 served as a catalyst for advancing nursing research in Honduras. These workshops comprised four modules, covering mentoring principles, the research process, scientific publication quality, and research mentoring plans. Thirty six nursing professionals from diverse health regions actively participated in both in-person and hybrid sessions, addressing a critical need for ongoing education and research capacity enhancement within the nursing community. The program achieved a commendable milestone by graduating 36 participants, marking a significant step towards fostering research excellence among nurses in Honduras. Moreover, the initiative aimed to establish a national network of nursing researchers, thereby contributing to the scientific progression of nursing in the country. Notably, one-third of the graduates from the mentorship course have joined the national network as mentors, extending their support to fellow nurses embarking on research projects.
