This workshop is designed to equip nurses and midwives with essential skills and knowledge in developing research proposals through a participatory and mentorship-driven approach. It features a blend of virtual learning and an in-person workshop, where participants will receive four online lectures, work in groups under the guidance of mentors, and develop research proposals on topics relevant to their practice. The workshop will conclude with an in-person session on December 16, 2024, where participants will present their proposals.

Objectives:

  • Identify and articulate relevant research problems
  • Choose appropriate research designs for their objectives
  • Apply ethical principles in research
  • Develop and implement well-structured research proposals, including methodologies, data analysis, and dissemination plans
  • Present their research proposals effectively to diverse audiences

Anticipated Outputs:

  • Improved patient outcomes due to the integration of evidence-based practices informed by research.
  • Enhanced research competency among nurses and midwives.
  • Establishment of a research mentorship program offering ongoing support to participants.
  • Strengthened networking and collaboration among regional researchers.
  • Increased publication rates of research conducted by workshop participants.

This initiative is expected to empower nurses and midwives to conduct impactful research that can influence health policy and practice in Kenya and beyond, fostering a research culture in the healthcare system.
