During 2017 a group of ~300 nurses in Africa completed a 6 months training course which Global Research Nurses was priviledged to offer with the African Genomic Medicine Training Initiative.

In the article 'Genome sequencing technologies and nursing: What are the roles of nurses and nurse scientists?' Taylor et al are of the opinion that nurses are at the focal point in educating patients regarding relevant healthcare needs. 

An understanding of sequencing technology and utilizing these data is thus critical.  

A potential impact of  sequencing technologies in healthcare is the identification of genetically vulnerable individuals.  This can be accomplished through screening programs for whom intervention, prior to the onset of pathology, can delay or prevent a pathological condition.
