Global Engagement Institute

Find out more about the Global Engagement Institute, part of the Global Engagement Foundation.
Capacity is the critical factor for development. Far beyond financial resources, individuals as well as institutions and societies require a multitude of capabilities to achieve their development objectives over time.

Addressing some of the most pressing capacity deficits in Africa, Asia and Latin America, the Global Engagement Foundation (GEF) is a non-profit social enterprise that provides targeted high-impact capacity development (CD) responses.

GEF works with individuals, institutions and societies by supporting the development of knowledge, skills, policies and processes. CD responses are customized according to partners’ priorities and requests, following a systematic five-step process consisting of stakeholder engagement, capacity assessment, and response formulation, implementation and evaluation.

Engage for Healthy Newborns

Join us and help to develop critical neonatal resuscitation and essential care capacity in Africa and Asia!
At the heart of the EHN Campaign, we respond to targeted requests of institutional partners in selected host countries in Africa and Asia in order to provide capacity development measures on the ground. The majority of these are carried out by delegations of qualified international health professionals and students who can upgrade their own professional knowledge, skills and intercultural competence in the process. Among others, delegation participants have the opportunity to complete a Helping Babies Breathe (HBB) / Helping Babies Survive (HBS) master trainer course as well as an intercultural competence workshop, before teaching up to two HBB/HBS provider courses to professionals at local health facilities.

You can become part of the Campaign and help to reduce the number of newborn deaths and stillbirths. Find out more about the programme on the EHN website.

Costs of attendance & inclusions:

The following USD prices apply to all programs and destinations, except for Papua New Guinea:
•Main program: $1,800 per person (8 days) or $2,100 per person (11 days)

A call for abstracts from China

Xuetao Cao a, Helena Hui Wang b, William Summerskill c, Selina Lo b, Richard Horton c

The China Academy of Medical Sciences (CAMS) and The Lancet family of journals invite abstract submissions from China for The Lancet-CAMS Health Summit, which will be held in Beijing, China on Oct 30—31, 2015. This multidisciplinary event will document the rapid progress and high quality research of China's health research community. Submissions are invited from all aspects of health science including, but not limited to: clinical medicine, translational medicine, public health, global health, health policy, the environment and ecological systems and health, and medical education.

The core of the event will consist of keynote presentations from leaders in China and elsewhere, and will include selected abstracts. After peer review, accepted abstracts will be edited and published online and in a conference booklet by The Lancet. Work completed outside China can be submitted, but only abstracts relevant to China's health science will be considered. The two best oral presentations, two best posters, and two best young investigators (aged 45 years or younger) will receive awards during the event.

The language of the conference will be English and abstracts should be written in English, up to 300 words in length, and with no references, tables, or figures. Submissions should include the following sections: background (including context and aim); methods; findings; and interpretation. Please also include a non-declamatory title (including a study descriptor—eg, randomised controlled trial); names, titles, highest degrees, and affiliations of authors; postal and email addresses for the corresponding author; any funding received (if none, please state this); and a brief summary of the contributions of each author and any competing interests. Guidelines are available on The Lancet's website.

Please submit your abstract as a Word document via The Lancet's online submission system no later than April 30, 2015, stating in your covering letter that the submission is in response to this call for abstracts from China. Following peer review by The Lancet, participants will be informed of acceptance of abstracts for oral or poster presentation by June 30, 2015.
