A Systematic Literature review about Nursing Research in Europe

The Reflection network

Wiley & Co, open access, has published a paper by David Richards, Vania Coulthard and Gunilla Borlin reporting the findings of a systematic literature review of Nursing Research in Europe, entitled 'The State of European Nursing Research: Dead, Alive, or Chronically Diseased? A Systematic Literature Review'.
"Results
We identified 1995 published reports and included 223 from 21 European countries, of which 193 (86.6%) reported studies of primary research only, 30 (13.5%) secondary research, and three (1.4%) a mix of primary and secondary. Methodological description was often poor, misleading, or even absent. One hundred (44.8%) articles reported observational studies, 87 (39.0%) qualitative studies. We found 26 (11.7%) articles reporting experimental studies, 10 (4.5%) of which were randomized controlled trials. We found 29 (13.0%) reports located within a larger program of research. Seventy-six (34.1%) articles reported studies of nursing interventions.
Linking Evidence to Action
European research in nursing reported in the leading nursing journals remains descriptive and poorly described. Only a third of research reports concerned nursing interventions, and a tiny proportion were part of a programmatic endeavor. Researchers in nursing must become better educated and skilled in developing, testing, evaluating, and reporting complex nursing interventions. Editors of nursing journals should insist on systematic reporting of research designs and methods in published articles."

Population Health Scholarship Programme in Washington for emerging Community Health Leaders. Apply by 31st October.

Population Health Scholarship Program

The Population Health Scholarship Program is designed to bring emerging community health leaders to Washington for a week-long policy bootcamp, including participation in the 2015 National Health Policy Conference (NHPC), meetings with policymakers and community health stakeholders, and networking events with key advisors from AcademyHealth's Translation and Dissemination Institute and the Committee on Advocacy and Public Policy (CAPP). By connecting these scholars with national experts, they will gain valuable insight into the policymaking process and learn new methods for translating and disseminating their work to decision makers.

Ten (10) scholarship recipients will receive a travel stipend and complimentary registration for the NHPC, and will participate in other tailored activities based on their health policy interests.

This five day bootcamp is designed to immerse scholars in the health policymaking process and introduce them to the top priorities of health policymakers. By the end of the bootcamp, participants will be able to:
•Define national health policy priorities and identify how their local-level efforts apply to the national health policy agenda;
•Translate and disseminate their successes to decision makers, who can inform policy, and to practitioners, who can replicate best practices in their own communities; and
•Build connections with officials from state and national health agencies, community leaders, and other individuals who are leading systems change efforts.

This program is sponsored by The Kresge Foundation.
