The Global Health Network and Global Research Nurses (GRN) are pleased to announce the launch of a special initiative designed to promote and strengthen research partnerships in the field of nursing and midwifery. Through our Pump-priming Grant 2024 program, we are offering 3 exclusive travel awards of up to £3,000 GBP to cover expenses associated with exchange visits that support the enhancement and consolidation of research collaborations between institutions and researchers.

Goal

Global Research Nurses Pump-Priming Grants 2024: mobility and exchange grants aim to enhance leadership in nursing and midwifery research, promoting collaboration, exchange of knowledge and experiences, professional development, innovation and global equity in health. Through participation in exchange visits and collaborative initiatives, nurses and midwives have the opportunity to make significant contributions to the advancement of nursing and midwifery research and practice on a local, national and global scale.

Global Research Nurses Pump-Priming Grants in 2024: Mobility and Exchange Grant

  • Global Research Nurses Pump-Priming Grants 2024: mobility and exchange grants aim to share knowledge and experience, foster innovation and promote best practices in nursing and midwifery research.
  • These grants provide funding for mobility activities to develop sustainable research partnerships in the areas of nursing and midwifery.
  • Mobility and exchange grants will cover travel expenses, including travel (air, ground), accommodation and local transport, up to a maximum value of £3,000 GBP. Please note that daily allowances (additional financial compensation for professionals for travel to carry out activities) are not covered by this scholarship.
  • Mobility and exchange grants were created to encourage the development of new collaborations and are not intended to replace support for established partnerships. Please note that the scheme is not a source of funding to support conference attendance.
  • Applicants are requested to carefully evaluate the need for travel before submitting the application.
  • The application deadline is midnight (London Time, UK) on 14 de abril 2024.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for mobility and exchange grants, the main applicant must:

  1. Be a member of Global Research Nurses in the Global Health Network (if you're not already, sign up now - it's free).
  2. Be employed in a non-commercial organization in low- or moderate-income countries (LMICs are defined as all countries included in the DAC's list of ODA beneficiaries. List available here ).
  3. Work as a clinical nurse, research nurse or midwife (this scholarship is open to all professional categories, from junior nurses to senior nurses, as well as nurses in leadership or management positions).
  4. Have the right to a visa or be exempt from presenting one to enter the host country. The scholarship recipient will be responsible for obtaining a business visa to travel to the host country when necessary. If the winner is refused a visa, the scholarship will be forfeited.

Criteria for judging proposals

  • Relevance of exchange visit: The proposal should clearly describe how it will strengthen an existing research partnership or initiate a new collaboration in the field of nursing and midwifery research. The importance of the exchange visit in advancing shared research goals and addressing key research challenges must be made explicit in the proposal.
  • Potential impact: Expected impact of the exchange visit on nursing and midwifery leadership, practice and research outcomes. Demonstrate how the exchange visit will contribute to the advancement of knowledge, the encouragement of innovation, and the promotion of best practices in nursing and midwifery research within and beyond their respective institutions or geographic locations.
  • Clarity and feasibility: Proposals will be evaluated based on the clarity and feasibility of the planned exchange visit. Present a detailed and well-structured plan describing the objectives, activities to be carried out during the visit, the schedule and the expected results of the exchange. Clear communication of roles, responsibilities and logistical planning is essential to ensure the successful implementation of proposed activities.
  • Collaborative activities: The exchange visit should facilitate meaningful interaction and collaboration between researchers from different institutions or geographic locations. Judges will assess the extent to which proposed activities promote knowledge exchange, skill development, mentoring and joint research efforts. Priority will be given to proposals that emphasize reciprocal learning and mutual benefit for all parties involved.
  • Budget Justification:   Present a comprehensive budget justification that clearly describes how the requested funds will be used to support the exchange visit. The budget must be aligned with the proposed activities and demonstrate cost-benefit, transparency and responsibility. Judges will evaluate the reasonableness of the budget and its alignment with the overall goals and objectives of the travel award.

 

Applicants are encouraged to address each criteria prudently and concisely to maximize their chances of securing funding for their travel project.

  • It will be mandatory to submit a written report or publication by December 31, 2024, summarizing the results arising from the grant and their implications for research led by nurses and midwives. This report should be submitted to the Global Research Nurses program coordinator and should include details of activities undertaken during the trip, insights gained, and any future plans or recommendations resulting from the experience. Additionally, the report or a link to any subsequent publication will be posted on the Global Research Nurses website at The Global Health Network.
  • Awardees will present and share the experience and results of their projects in a Global Research Nurses webinar. Date to be confirmed.
  • Awardees will join the Research Mentor Network for Nurses and Midwives to share their research experiences and offer support to colleagues.
  • All expenses covered by the mobility and exchange scholarship must be completed by November 30, 2024. This deadline cannot be extended.
  • It will also be necessary to present an Expense Report or Declaration of expenses.
  • Global Research Nurses and Global Health Network reserve the right to withhold or recover funds awarded in cases of non-compliance or misconduct.
  • Any material published or presented under these grants will need to acknowledge financial support, including statements such as "This work was supported by The Burdett Trust for Nursing (SB\LG\101010662\795104)".
